Float needle BGM PRO Viton ® for Dell'Orto carburettors The float needle regulates the flow of petrol into the carburettor. If the float needle is defective, the carburetor overflows and the gasoline drips onto the floor and / or into the engine. The result is often a poorly starting and smoking engine. If the carburetor is overhauled, it makes sense to change the float needle at the same time. Unfortunately it is not included with most carburetor gasket sets, so you should always buy them separately. SPRING OR UNSPRING? A spring-loaded float needle is the modern successor to the unsprung variant and can replace it 1: 1. The spring serves to protect the rubber tip from too much pressure and buffers excessive impacts from the swimmer, e.g. in the case of bumps, like a shock absorber. On many supposedly non-adjustable motors, the mere installation of a spring-loaded float needle helps to fine-tune them. The additional buffer makes the float level significantly more stable, regardless of the natural vibrations of the motor. TRIANGULAR OR SQUARE? Dell'orto uses two different forms of float needle types as a rough distinction; Triangular and square.
